Two developments in higher judiciary are concerning the top court and high courts on Tuesday,First,CJI U U Lalit has recommended the second most senior judge of the Supreme Court Dhananjaya Yashwant Chandrachud as his successor.

This means that if the Centre accepts CJI U U Lalit’s recommendation,Justice Chandrachud will be the 50th Chief Justice of India on November 9, a day after CJI U U Lalit retires on November 8 for two years till November 10,2024.

Two, Justice P B Varale of the Bombay High Court was promoted as Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court. And Justice Pankaj Mithal was transferred to the Rajasthan High Court as Chief Justice.
