In a shocking incident, on suspicion that she had indulged in cheating in examination conducted by the school, the class teacher compelled her to strip off her clothes in presence of students.

“The teacher was trying to check whether she had hidden cheating items inside her body. This was horrible”, recalled a staff of the school.

Apparently, in a burst of anger, the victim girl, a minor, who was Dalit, rushed back home, locked herself in a room, sprayed kerosene on her body, and set herself afire on Friday. She was admitted by her parents to a local hospital where she was declared dead Saturday.

The incident took place in Shardamani Girls School, Shakchi, Jamshedpur. The girl was a student of Class IX. “ She was badly injured. Large parts of her body were burnt. At around 11.30 AM today, the hospital authorities declared her dead.

In protest against her unnatural death, scores of people gathered at the Office of Jamshedpur District Education Officer and demanded lawful action against the teacher today.

In response, the Shardamani Girls School remained shut and security was tightened at the office of the DEO, Jamshedpur.
