A violent clash between villagers and cops took place in the Chatra district of Jharkhand. Nearly seven policemen and one villager were injured.

To maintain law and order, central para-military forces of the CRPF were deployed. The injured cops and the villager were admitted to Sadar hospital Chatra.

The incident took place near Heru bridge along the police line- Nawadih. The cause of the battle was attributed to a police van hitting a biker. As a result, the biker Pappu Kumar, 28 died on the spot.

The accidental death of Kumar enraged villagers who held the police van driver in their custody. The police personnel managed to pick up the body of Kumar and sent it to the hospital for post-mortem.

When the ASI Shanti Thakur tried to rescue the police van driver, villagers went berserk.” They encircled the ASI Thakur and thrashed him and tore apart his uniform. Soon, the policemen lathi charged. In response, villagers indulged in stone pelting”, said an eye witness on the telephone.

This made seven cops and a villager suffer from injuries. A section of CRPF personnel was deployed and the ASI Thakur was rescued from the clutch of villagers.
