ED’s case against Pankaj Mishra has taken a new turn following yet another FIR filed against him at SC- ST police station in Sahebgunj today.

The FIR was filed by Vijay Hansda who is in jail and was ED’s witness in a mega illegal mining case showing Rs 1000 crore money laundering indulged in by seven accused including Pankaj Mishra, who is representative of MLA and Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

Top police officers including SP and DIG Sudarshan Mandal had claimed that Hansda had withdrawn the complaint of illegal mining in Sahebgunj. This was described as ‘false’ by Hansda.

“The police acted falsely against me to save the accused”, Hansda is learnt to have told the ED.

In fact, on the basis of Hansda’’s  FIR ( filed by him much before he was jailed by Jharkhand police allegedly on false charges on June 30, 2022)highlighting illegal mining in Sahebgunj, the ED had started an investigation into the illegal mining in Nimbu Pahad and unearthed evidence showing mining of stones was being carried without any lease. Then, Pankaj Mishra and others were arrested by ED and jailed.

ED inquiry report showed that the mined stones were transported by trucks and ships to far-flung areas of Bihar and  Bengal without paying any tax to the mining and road departments.

As per the directive of the court in Sahebgunj, the police station in charge of the SC- ST police station has registered the FIR under various sections of the IPC against Pankaj Mishra, Vishnu Yadav, Patwari Kumar Yadav, Rajesh Yadav, Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Bacchu Yadav, and S. Mandal were accused as Hansda himself belongs to ST community.

Since the court had earlier directed the police station to register his FIR and record Vijay Hansda’s viewpoint afresh, the statement of Hansda was being recorded in presence of Sahebgunj SDPO, it is learnt.
