Eight veteran Maoists on Wednesday surrendered before the police at the police headquarters office of the Inspector General in Ranchi.

All of them are going to get benefits under the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the state government in Jharkhand.

Among these eight Maoists were Misir Besra alias Sagar and Patiram Manjhi alias Anal, Other six were Jairam Bodra alias Juria Bidra, Sarita alias Mungli Sardar alias Sarita Sardar alias Sanita, Martam Angariya, Somwari Kumari alias Toni, Tungir Purti, Payar Koda, Kusnu Sirka alias Kartika Sirka and Sanju Purti.

All of them who were tribals were from forest areas of West Singhbhum bordering Odisha. Misir Besra carried Rs one crore on his head. All of them were wanted in multiple cases of violence, murder, and ransom.

As per the Jharkhand government’s notified surrender and rehabilitation policy, each surrendered Maoist will get Rs 2.5 lakh in cash- Rs 50,000 at the time of surrender and the balance in two annual installments.

Two, the state government will provide vocational training to these eight surrendered Maoists at the cost of Rs 3,000 per month.
