When Pakistan’s former President died at a hospital in Dubai on Sunday, the Prince of cricket and former captain of Team India MS Dhoni must have recalled Parvez Musharraf.

Almost 17 years ago, Dhoni and Musharraf had come face to face. The venue was Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The date was February 13, 2006, when Dhoni took to a comfortable win and earned praise from then-Pakistan president Parvez Musharraf.

Also, Musharraf, who was the four-star general who ruled Pakistan for nearly a decade after seizing power in a bloodless coup in 1999, had complimented Dhoni to sport long hair.

That was the time Young Dhoni used to have the king and golden-streaked looks which garnered global attention. Even President Parvez Musharraf was a big fan of Dhoni’s long hairdo when India toured Pakistan during the 2005-6 season.

Musharraf, who used to make guest appearances during India’s tour of Pakistan had once advised Dhoni to not cut his dapper look.

During a post-match press conference after India’s impressive win over hosts Pakistan in Lahore, Musharraf had urged Dhoni to keep his iconic long-hair look at the time.

”I saw a placard which said’ Dhoni has a haircut.’ If you want to take my opinion, you look good with this haircut. Don’t have a haircut,” Musharraf is on record having famously said after India defeated Pakistan in the third ODI of the bilateral series.

No wonder why this memorable interaction between Musharraf and Dhoni is still fondly remembered by fans and followers of the game of Cricket. Dhoni can never forget him now when he is more.
