Goilkera, a block in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand has been reeling in tension ever since the Panchayat Bhawan was bombed by Maoists on Thursday - Friday night.
Kadamdiha Panchayat’s double-story building was badly damaged though there is no report of any casualty.
In this region, security forces have been carrying out anti-left-wing extremist operations. By using IED blasts such as the above incident, they were putting up resistance.
The entire area is encircled by forests and iron ore mines of the Steel Authority of India and Tata Steel. The security forces have been trying to contain them.
These Maoists belonging to CPI( Maoists) have been observing “ Resistance Week” in this belt. Reports say they were planning to indulge in more such incidents. One minor bridge located in the jurisdiction area of Muffasil police station near Barkela village was blown up.
Security forces were deployed in sensitive areas of Goilkera where they have recovered IEDs and had come face to face with them in quite a few incidents of encounters and firings’.
