Chief Minister Hemant Soren has expressed grief at the death of his cabinet colleague and Education Minister Jagannath Mahto.

The cause of his death was attributed to the failure of the lung transplanted on him after he contracted COVID in November 2020.

CM Soren has described his death as “irreparable loss.”“Jharkhand has lost a committed, hard-working and revolutionary and people’s leader”, states Soren who had tweeted his sense of grief this morning after the demise of Mahto in Chennai.

After his body will arrive, the last rights will be performed. Late Mahto represented the Dumri Assembly constituency as MLA of the ruling JMM.

Much before his death, he had participated in the Run for Vision programme organised by the Kashyap Eye Memorial Bank and Eye Donation Awareness Club, Ranchi on September 4,2022.

On the same day, Mahto had pledged his eyes and delivering his speech, stating this.” I am before you today, alive and well, thanks to the gift of a lung transplant that has made it possible for me to stand alive. I take this opportunity to thank the Kashyap Memorial Eye Bankabd Dr. B.P. Kashyap and Dr. Bharti Kashyap for their commitment to raising people’s awareness on eye and organ donation.”

Today, Dr. Bharti Kashyap recalled him and in her WhatsApp group, Eye Dac made a comment writing this.

“He( Education Minister of Jharkhand Jagannath Mahto)was such a noble soul that he came to our Run for Vision program and pledged his eyes. He also came (and attended )in our midterm ophthalmic conference inauguration

Both times he gave a beautiful speech standing. He did not sit.”
