Amid a war of words going on in Bihar over the release of former Bihar MP Anand Mohan from jail last month, a new demand has gained ground- set free two more upper-caste politicians -- former MP Prabhunath Singh and former MLA Anant Singh from jail.

Among these two, Prabhunath Singh, who is a four-time MP from Maharajganj, is presently serving a life sentence in Hazaribagh jail in Jharkhand in connection with the murder of the Janata Dal MLA Ashok Singh in Patna on July 3, 1995.

A Hazaribagh court had awarded a life sentence to Prabhunath Singh in the case in May 2017.

Another politician whose release from jail has been demanded is Anant Singh who is currently serving a 10-year jail sentence in an Arms Act case after an AK 47 was recovered from his residence in August 2019.

Anant Singh is lodged in Beur jail in Patna at present. He has served as an MLA from the JD(U) and RJD earlier. He was disqualified as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly after he was convicted in this case last year.

The demand to release them from jail is raised by Krishna Kumar Kallu, who heads the Swarna Kranti Dal. He is on record saying that he will go to any extent to ensure that both politicians are released from jail, reports, indiatoday.in

This has prompted  BJP leader Arvind Kumar Singh to allege that Bihar CM Nitish Kumar had released Anand Mohan “due to pressure from the RJD.”

"Due to (this) pressure, all dreaded criminals of Bihar will be released by the state government. This will mark the return of 'jungle raj' in Bihar," the BJP leader said.

Last month, Anand Mohan was released from Saharsa jail after the state government tweaked the Bihar Prisons Manual 2012, facilitating his release. He was convicted in the 1994 Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah murder case. Since then Nitish Kumar -led government and the Opposition BJP have been in war of words over Anand Mohan’s release from jail.
