Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren has made a fine move for pro - poor students’ secondary education by introducing a new scholarship scheme in the state.
The move aims to encourage and promote school education among meritorious students of deprived sections, especially Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste and OBCs in Jharkhand.
Billed as Mukhya Mantri Merit Scholarship scheme,the application has been sought by the state government managed Jharkhand Academic Council through its website.
Starting today( May 20,2023), the last day for filling application is June 9,2023.JAC will conduct exam/test to prepare its list of “ meritorious” students without charging any fees.
Already, over 6500 students had hit JAC website on Saturday.
As par Soren government’s plan, 5000 students are to be selected every year to provide each of them Rs 12,000 every year.And, less than 400 students are to be selected from each of total 24 districts of the state.
The students of Class 9-12 are made eligible. The applicant has to secure minimum 60 percent of 100 percent marks to get the Rs 12,000 scholarship for one year.
In case, a student of Class 9 or 10 or 11 of schools following CBSC and ICSC fails to secure 60 percent marks in annual examinations, he/ she will not benefit from this scholarship scheme next year.
Notably,selected students of the state government run residential schools will get only 50 percent of Rs 12000 scholarship every year.
Eligibility Criteria:
Students of all schools run by state government, minority communities and schools run without any financial assistance from the government can apply for the Mukhya Mantri Merit Scholarship provided they had gained over 60 percent marks in Class 9,10 and 11.
There is another condition. Any student who had gained this scholarship to pursue education and failed to secure above 60 percent marks in final examination will not get scholarship fund for the next class.
Noteworthy is that 30 percent of total number of scholarship awarded to meritorious students every year will be reserved for girls.
Form of Examination: Exams will be conducted in two sections, each of 90 minute schedule carrying comprise multiple choice questions.
The section 1 to carry 90 mental ability questions connected with Reasoning. English and Hindi. To test student’s logic ability, questions on analog,classification, numerical series,pattern perception and hidden figures will be raised.The level of Class 7-8 questions will be formulated.
In section 2, will carry
the Scholastic Aptitude Test (also known as 'SAT'),a reasoning test required by top educational institutions across the globe.The SAT test will carry 30-30 questions each on science, social science and maths.And as such, the total number of questions will be 90.
Notably, student will selected only when he/ she will secure a minimum of 40-40 percent in each exam section.
Application Format:
The application has to be filed online during May 20- June 9,2023 on Jharkhand Academic Council Website. Every day, during the above period,District Education officer will forward students’ application. And the admit card will be issued to the candidate for participating in the examination to get Mukhya Mantri Merit Scholarship only on DEO’s “ forwarded” application.
The admit card can be down loaded from JAC’s website from June 19 onwards for examination likely to take place on June 24.
