A battle has surfaced between the state government led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan. The subject of dispute is over a private university.

It started with Governor CP Radhakrishnan returning  the Jain University Bill, 2023, to the state government.

The bill was approved by the assembly on March 21, 2023, during the monsoon session. Now the Governor Radhakrishnan has questioned its justification arguing that granting  permission to establish a new private university in the state has taken place at a time when there are pending actions taken against private universities who had violated rules and regulations in the state.

Toward the same end, a committee was constituted to investigate and provide details regarding the actions taken. After the committee of the higher education department was formed in June 2022.

The office of the Governor has also sought  a status report of this committee. Incidentally, this is not the first gun fired against the Soren government.

Previously, a bill proposing for OBC, SC, was returned by Governor CP Radhakrishnan in April 2023.

Responding to the Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan’s move, the ruling JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey told media persons that the government is examining the “merit and demerit” of the Governor Radhakrishnan’s bill’s return. Also, he aired anger stating that the Raj Bhavan had “ mistreated” JMM workers by not allowing them to participate in the swearing -in function  of the Excise minister Baby Devi recently.
