In separate incidents, seven girls who had gone to take baths in water bodies were drowned to death in Jharkhand.
On Tuesday morning, four children drowned in a pond located at Panchwa police station in Giridih when they were taking a bath. One of their friends who too was swimming and taking a bath reportedly survived, said the police.
Giridih SP Deepak Kumar Sharma says that five children, each below 15- years old, on the occasion of the Karma festival, had gone to take a bath in the pond.
“They were swimming. Four of them drowned to death though one of them survived”, he said.
The recovered bodies of four girls were sent for post-mortem. As per the disaster management guideline, the family members of the deceased girls will be paid compensation of Rs 4 lakh each.
According to the police, three other girls had drowned to death in the Gumani river in Kherwa village under Barhet police station in Sahibgunj district on Monday.
