The celebration of Adivasis’ Karam festival was marred in some parts of Jharkhand after five girls were drowned to death in two separate incidents in water bodies. 

 They drowned in water bodies while dispersing Karam leaves, a ritual performed after Karam puja was performed in the night. Two children were reported missing. 

According to reports, a group of five girls had gone to immerse Karam leaves in water body in Choparan block of Hazaribagh district.Two got drowned to death. Two others were reportedly remain missing till 3.45 pm today. 

 “ Also locals managed to rescue two girls. They were taken to Dumra hospital where doctors declared them dead”, said a report. 

 The second incident took place in Matigarha dam linked with Jamunia river in Bhagmara block of Dhanbad district.

Three children were drowned while they were trying to immerse Karam leaves. Two deceased were identified as Devraj Kumari(10) and Saloni Kumari( 14).

They were residents of the same area. BJP Baghmara MLA Dulu Mahto said that both the deceased will be paid compensation of Rs two lakh each.
