At a time when he is under the vigil of the Enforcement Directorate which has issued a fifth summon asking him to appear before it on October 4, in money laundering connected with the land scam, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren is trying to appease Adivasis.

A group of Adivasis has been up in arms demanding a separate religious status for them.

They argue that they belong to neither Hindu nor any other dharma and describe their religion as Sarna. In the past, responding to their demand, CM Soren had conveyed to the Government of India to recognise Adivasi as Sarna.

Reiterating his demand, Soren has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking recognition of the ‘Sarna’ religious code for tribals. In his letter, Soren said the population of tribals in the state has declined to 26 per cent from 38 per cent in the last eight decades.

Soren has posted his letter to PM Modi on social media platform X( known earlier as Twitter).

"The concern of protecting the traditional religious existence of tribals is certainly a serious question.

Today, the demand for Tribal and Sarna Religious Codes is being raised so that this nature-worshipping tribal community can be confident about its identity.

Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren writes to PM Narendra Modi demanding the implementation of the 'Sarna' code.
