In Jharkhand High Court, 12 posts of judges have been lying vacant against the approved strength of 25,
At national level 428 posts of High court judges have been lying vacant in various high courts of India as against approved strength of 1079 as on November 22, 2016.
Moreover, total 80,419 cases including 42,570 civil and 37,849 criminal cases are pending in Jharkhand High Court; In 24 High Courts of the country, total 38,70,373 cases including 28,37,378 civil and 10,32,995 criminal cases are pending as on December 31, 2015.
The Union Minister of State for Law and Justice and Electronics and Information Technology Mr. P.P. Chaudhary tabled the information in the Rajya Sabha on November 25, 2016 in reply to a question raised by Rajya Sabha member Parimal Nathwani.
In accordance with the statement presented in the House, as against the total approved strength of 31 judges, total 07 posts are vacant in Supreme Court of India as on November 22, 2016.
Nathwani wanted to know about number of vacancies of Judges in the Supreme Court and various High Courts of the country, the number of pending cases, both criminal and civil in various High Courts and the Supreme Court of India and number of cases taken on board and disposed of by delivering judgement during the year in various High Courts and the Supreme Court of India.
According to the minister’s statement, total 59,595 cases including 48,532 civil cases and 11,063 criminal cases are pending with the Supreme Court of India as on March 31, 2016. The Supreme Court of India disposed total 19,913 cases including 15,062 civil cases and 4,851 criminal cases between January 1, 2016 and March 31, 2016, said the statement.
The minister also stated that in Jharkhand High Court total 31,314 cases were disposed including 9,620 civil cases and 21,694 criminal cases between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015. Total 15,80,911 cases including 9,55,885 civil cases and 6,25,026 criminal cases were disposed by various High Courts in the country during the same period, as per the statement.
According to the Minister’s statement, total 20,236 cases including 15,413 civil cases and 4,823 criminal cases were instituted in the Supreme Court of India between January 1, 2016 and March 31, 2016. Similarly, total 30,918 cases were instituted including 9,700 civil cases and 21,218 criminal cases were instituted in Jharkhand High Court between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015. At national level, total 16,88,449 cases including 10,21,832 civil cases and 6,66,617 criminal cases were instituted in various High Courts between January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015, said the statement.
