October 31 is the day for two central events connected with top government functionaries in India. It’s the birth anniversary of ex Union Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and death anniversary of the ex PM Indira Gandhi.

This exhibited political divide among the ruling BJP and opposition Congress. Consider this.

While top BJP leaders and government top functionaries including President Draupadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid floral tributes to him, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and CPP chairperson Sonia Gandhi led the party leaders in paying homage to former prime minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary.

These congress leaders paid floral tributes to the former prime minister Indira Gandhi at Shakti Sthal in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi paid floral tributes to Sardar at the Statue of Unity at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat’s Kevadia, Narmada and marked nation wide celebrations  of National Unity Day.

Recalling the contribution of Indira Gandhi, Kharge wrote on X, “Today, we solemnly remember and pay our humble tribute to Indira Gandhi ji, whose exemplary leadership and dedicated service towards the empowerment of the marginalised is a source of eternal inspiration for the nation.”

Alongside, the PM Modi administered the oath of unity to the gathering at a function. In Ekta Nagar( city of unity), earlier known as Kevadia in Narmada district of Gujarat.
