Two events marked the heat generated by investigating agencies in Jharkhand on Thursday.

First is connected with Chief Minister Hemant Soren, MLA’s representative Pankaj Mishra, who is behind the high walls of Birsa Munda Central jail in Ranchi.

The Central Bureau of Investigation, enquiring into the illegal mining at Nimbu Pahad in Sahibganj, as per the directive of the Jharkhand High Court, has reportedly conducted raids at the premises of Pankaj Mishra. The raids continued till going for publication( 3 pm on Thursday).

Reports indicate that the CBI may also raid the premises of Bijay Hansda, Pavitra Yadav and Chotu Yadav.

The second event is connected with the jam suffered by the note-counting machine used by the Income Tax department sleuths inside the premises of the Congress RS MP Dheeraj Sahu.

They had switched it on to count the seized cash recovered from the premises of Sahu. But the machine could count up to Rs 50 crore. Since the amount of cash was more than that- “so much that the note counting machine suffered from jam”, according to information received from reliable officers.

After the jam- the error was fixed, and the note-counting machine started counting the seized cash from the premises of Congress RS MP Dheeraj Sahu who belonged to the family of Lohardaga-based Sahu family who excelled in the liquor business.

On Wednesday, the Income Tax sleuths raided half a dozen locations in three states linked to Dheeraj Sahu.

The Income Tax Department team of Odisha has conducted this raid on the information of Income Tax evasion. The raid was continuing till late Wednesday and Thursday as well.

The IT sleuths’ raids took place in far-flung locations in Boudh, Balangir, Raigarh and Sambalpur in Odisha, besides Ranchi and Lohardaga in Jharkhand and Kolkata in Bengal.
