As many as 12 persons were run over by a passenger train in the Jamtara area of Jharkhand.

The accident took place on Wednesday evening. Though the number of deaths is not known, at least 2 were confirmed dead, according to a statement released by the Eastern Railway.

The victims were walking on the track when they were run over by the Jhajha-Asansol Memu passenger train. 

A search operation was carried out till late at night. The death toll is likely to increase.
