Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his wife Kalpana, MLA, have undertaken the journey to meet top functionaries in the national capital, New Delhi, transcending the barriers of party frames all the way.

On July 15( today), the Soren couple met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. Prior to this on July 13, they had met Congress senior leader Sonia Gandhi.

The same day, Soren and Kalpana had met Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who is in jail in a corruption case related to the alleged excise policy scam.

During the meeting, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was also present at the Delhi Chief Minister's official residence. Incidentally, the CM Hemant Soren and Kalpana Soren had met PM smilingly.

This was their first meeting since Soren's release from jail, where he spent approximately five months in prison, and after becoming the Chief Minister again for third time in Jharkhand. It's worth noting that assembly elections are likely to be in Jharkhand later this year.

Amidst this election season, the Soren couple’s visit to Delhi and their meeting with PM Modi have sparked discussions and raised eyebrows. However, sharing the picture on the platform X( known earlier as Twitter)from the meeting, CM Soren said that it was a "courtesy meeting with the Prime Minister".

As it is, Soren was released from jail on June 28 after the Jharkhand High Court granted him bail. He took oath of office of chief minister again on July 4 and won a trust vote in the assembly.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) executive president Hemant Soren had resigned as the chief minister before his arrest on January 31 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.

After spending around five months in prison, he secured bail and became chief minister again on July 4. While granting him bail, the Jharkhand High Court has held that prima facie he is not guilty of the offence and there is no likelihood that he would commit an offence while on bail.

The assembly elections in Jharkhand can be held in October, two months before the scheduled time.
