Jharkhand Police lathi-charged to disburse assistant policemen protesting outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Ranchi for hike in salary.

The protesters were contractual cops who have put forward various demands including permanent jobs.

Assistant policemen who were protesting in Ranchi's Morhabadi ground for the last 20 days were going to protest outside the residence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren in Kanke road, Ranchi Friday. 

But they were not only stopped by putting up barricades near Kanke road and Morahabadi, but the police indulged in lathi charge after the protesters broke the barricades. 

Following this there was a battle between the agitating police men and police forces resulting in casualty of a dozen of them, eye witness account said. 

The district authorities had deployed a large number of police force. The traffic in Kanke road, Morahabadi and other connected roads was paralysed. 

Assistant policemen are saying that they will definitely reach the CM house and convey their message to the Chief Minister. The assistant policemen demand that the mere Rs 10, 000 which they get for the last 7 years should be increased.  

Also, the Government should consider the 8-point demand and accept it as soon as possible. For the last three years, assistant policemen reach Morhabadi ground every year to protest but they get nothing except assurances. 

At present, a large number of police force has been deployed by installing water cannons near Morhabadi ground. 

Inquiry revealed that these assistant policemen were appointed by the BJP leader Raghubar Das's Government on contractual basis in 2015-16.
