In a resolution notice to Secretary, Jharkhand Assembly,BJP MLAs have demanded suspension of the Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Ravindranath Mahto.

This is in response to order of suspension of 18 Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs for indulging in “hooliganism” in the Jharkhand Assembly issued by Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto on August 1.

They were suspended till 2 p.m, Tuesday, August 2, the last day of the monsoon session of the Assembly. However, before the Assembly was adjourned sine die the 18 suspended BJP MLAs held a meeting and resolved to submit notice to the Secretary of the Assembly, seeking suspension of the Speaker Rabindranath Mahto.

BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Amar Kumar Bauri alleged that the Speaker Rabindranath Mahato has acted as “ agent” of the CM Hemant Soren rather than as Speaker of the Assembly.

Mr Bauri also alleged that his order of suspension of 18 BJP MLAs showed “dictatorship” by the Speaker. BJP MLAs called the Speaker’s action “murder of democracy”. “What happened was an attempt by the government to suppress the voice of Opposition MLAs,” Mr. Bauri said.

Mr.Bauri added “The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress-Rashtriya Janata Dal alliance in the State has added a black chapter in the history of this Assembly. We did not bomb the House… We only followed Bapu’s principle of ahimsa [non-violence]… Our party MLAs were suspended under government pressure”. Mr. Bauri and fellow BJP MLA Neelkanth Munda were not suspended but staged a walkout from the House.

As it is,the BJP MLAs were protesting against eviction of party MLAs by Marshals of the State Assembly on July 31 following Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s “refusal to reply to their queries”.

Their queries mainly revolved around illegal Bangladeshi migrants. Also, the BJP MLAs staged a protest at the lobby of the Assembly, after being marshalled out from the Well of the House.

Several of the protesting BJP MLAs spent the night at the lobby near the entrance of the Assembly building, sleeping on bed covers and blankets rolled out on the floor. They ate food delivered from outside.
