Journalism can bring change in society. Prabhat Khabar is an example of this, said Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh at St.Xavier’s college, Ranchi on Saturday.

He was speaking after the book - Newsprint to Heartprint, was unveiled in a function organized at St. Xavier's College, Ranchi. 

Mr Harivansh said that when he joined Prabhat Khabar, he had many obstacles in front of him. But taking all of them as a challenge, he moved forward with a team. All members of the team led by him not only established coordination with the management, but worked unitedly in a mission mode.

The news were fact based and published prominently by highlighting the grievances and the sufferings of the deprived and oppressed people.

This helped encourage people to rise and shine. The writers grew from among tribal and other minority communities. In effect, rampant corruption prevalent in the government system was exposed. 

Harivansh said, he encouraged local writers and published their write ups attacking corrupt functionaries. He said that despite many challenges, he worked with a team spirit and won the trust of the readers. 


The function organised to launch the book - 
Newsprint to Heartprint- was held inside Fr. De Brouwer Auditorium Hall, St. Xavier’s college, Ranchi, was kick started by its Principal, Fr. Nabor Lakra.

On this occasion, while participating in the panel discussion, three joint authors of the book- Newsprint to Heartprint-Prof.( Dr.)Abhijeet Kumar Chattoraj, Dr Srinath Sridharan and Dr Saloni Sinha, besides senior journalists Manoj Prasad, Prof. BK Sinha and Ravi Bajpai expressed their views on their book. 

Dr Abhijeet said that this book is a research based document meant for students of management courses. “Every student should read it”, he opined. 

Also, he said that this book carries text showcasing how as its Chief Editor, Harivansh functioned, led a team,used better management techniques and leadership skills to transform Prabhat Khabar from the verge of closure to a daily news paper with million readers in eastern India.

Another co author,Srinath Sridharan said that to make any product popular, its marketing policy always plays a significant role. The Prabhat Khabar’s innovative marketing  strategies and techniques immensely contributed in helping it gain mileage over its rival Hindi dailies.

Yet another co author Dr Saloni Sinha said that leadership is born only through smart leadership. This book is based on contents of leadership. As such, it’s factual text is something to learn from for every student of management.

Speaking on the occasion, senior journalist Manoj Prasad said that “ usually a reader evaluates any book on the basis of credibility of its publisher, writer(s) and contents incorporated in the form of its text.

Manoj Prasad opined that ‘Newsprint to Heartprint’ offers a fine piece of factual guidelines for management students to learn how a capable, sincere and honest leader can draft a plan and implement it with a dedicated team of colleagues to achieve his set target.

While expressing his opinion on the topic, economist Dr. Hariswar Dayal recalled his association with Prabhat Khabar. He said that tough decisions can  be taken amid challenges and dilemmas of life. Several explanations made in this book provide glimpses of triumph and tribulation and ways to deal with challenges the Harivanshji’s way.

Dr Dayal also said that credibility is not earned by money, but it can be gained socially, spiritually and emotionally by deeds for a common cause. “Harivanshji has showcased it”, he said.

Many senior journalists, intellectuals, social workers and students were present in the function.
