Morahabadi maidan in Ranchi is packed with security forces to maintain law and order on the day Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha is holding ‘Yuva Aakrosh Rally’ there.

The Ranchi district administration has put up barricades across the Morahabadi maidan, the venue of Yuva Akrosh rally, and all entry roads to city of Ranchi were blocked for buses and trucks from 8 am to 6 pm today.

This was criticised by the BJP state unit chief and former CM Babulal Marandi.” The security forces were not allowing hundreds of people to participate in peaceful rally.

The Chief Minister Hemant Soren is scared. But the people will drive him away”, said Soren who stood on the podium at Morahabadi maidan where security forces outnumbered the BJP Yuva Morcha, organiser of the Akrosh rally.

In fact, the Ranchi district administration had issued on Thursday prohibitory orders near Morabadi maidan banning dharnas, rallies, and public meetings.

The order was effective will from 11am to 11pm on Friday. Ranchi Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Utkarsh Kumar said Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), which replaced Section 144 of the CrPC, has been enforced within a 500-metre radius of the Morabadi Ground, excluding the ground itself.

The prohibitory orders specifically ban public meetings, rallies, dharnas, demonstrations, and gatherings of five or more people within this perimeter. Additionally, carrying arms, ammunition, explosives, and traditional weapons such as lathis, spears, and bows and arrows is prohibited.

Loudspeakers are also barred in the area, a release said. official release noted concerns that some organisations or parties are planning to hold dharnas, demonstrations and rally and there is a possibility of gheraoing the Chief Minister’s residence.

“Such activities may cause disruption in government work, traffic system may get affected, law and order situation may arise and public places might be disturbed. Therefore probitory orders have been imposed,” the release added.

Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Pratul Shadeo said the rally is being held by the BJP’s youth wing members in protest against the Hemant Soren-led government for allegedly failing to fulfill promises such as jobs to five lakh youths and unemployment aid to them that were made during the last election.

“The state government is scared by the proposed rally. This is why it issued prohibitory order a day before it,” he said.

Backed by BJP, a significant turnout of BJYM workers was visible in Ranchi, with plans to march towards Soren’s residence to demand answers regarding jobs, unemployment allowances, and other issues highlighted during the 2019 Assembly election campaign, a party office-bearer said.

Jharkhand BJP president Babulal Marandi appealed the youth workers to participate in the rally in large numbers. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Hemant Soren took a dig at the proposed rally. “They (BJP) have ruined the future of youths across the country. And, now they are taking out ‘Yuva Aakrosh’ rally.

Recruitments have almost dried up in major employment intensive sectors such as defence, railway, Coal India and banks,” he said at a government function in Palamu on Thursday. Soren said his government has already given jobs to “thousands of youths.”
