After Champai Soren quit JMM and tendered his resignation as its MLA on Wednesday night, his security scale was increased from the state forces to the ‘Z’ scale. This was after a threat assessment was done by the Intelligence Bureau. 

Champai Soren will now be protected by 28 commandos drawn from the Central Armed Police Force. More, armed guards will be deployed at his residence in Saraikela, office and at any other place of stay during tours, it is learnt.  

While no information is available on the details of the specific threat perceived by the intelligence agencies, Champai Soren has been actively voicing opinions on “ tribal identity” and “ infiltration” and change in the demographic pattern of Santhal Pargana in Jharkhand, particularly after he posted his three options carrying words “ After so much insult and contempt”( against the ruling JMM) on X August 18.

In his letter of resignation to the Assembly Speaker, Champai Soren has attributed the cause to “ personal reason”. He is slated to join the BJP in Ranchi tomorrow ( August 30).

However, he has said that he was forced to take such a step as he was aggrieved by the party's present style of functioning and policies. 

In a resignation letter to party supremo Shibu Soren, Champai Soren has expressed deep sorrow over the state of the party, stating that the JMM had strayed from the ideals that he and other party workers had fought for under Shibu Soren's guidance.

Champai Soren is slated to join the BJP in Ranchi on August 30,
