Ninety-six years old Rana Sangram Singh, a veteran trade union leader of the Indian National Trade Union Congress, who was associated with the Ranchi-based Public Sector Undertaking - Heavy Engineering Corporation Ltd.- is no more.
He died on Saturday ( September 7, 2024). His death is primarily attributed to his overage.
“It’s natural death”, said a relative. Rana Sangram Singh who had led workers of the HEC since its inception in 1964, witnessed the rise and fall of the HEC and the plight of its workers due to the ailing PSU’s pathetic condition.
JharkhandStateNews.com has interacted with him umpteen times. Each time he opined that a heavy engineering industry like HEC should not become “second” in India in 75 years.
So, he once said,” Don't let it go to waste. It has given steel industries like Bokaro, Bhilai, Bhizag, and Kudremukh to the country. Coal mining, space, and railways supplied incomparable equipment for the defense sector.
The launching pad of Chandrayaan 3 was made and such launching pads have been made and supplied for the last ten years.”
Joint General Secretary of Hatia Union, Leeladhar Singh said that Rana Sangram Singh was his teacher from whom he learnt leadership skills. He had led a number of ailing PSU, HEC workers’ movements during the past six decades.
His body is currently kept in the mortuary of the Paras Hospital. The burial procession is scheduled to begin at 10 am in the morning and the last rites will be performed at Mukti Dham in Dhurva, Ranchi on Sunday.
