If Traffic Revolution Starts in Bihar, Why Jharkhand Can’t Get Real-Timeroad Alerts On Your Phone Soon Bihar is on its way to being able to plan to show road trips after getting real-time information on traffic and emergency situations across the state on cellphones, why Jharkhand can’t take this grand step?

To make it possible in Jharkhand, concerned police authorities in this state should first grab the eyeball on the facility that will be provided by Bihar Police.

On Thursday Bihar police signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MapmyIndia, a 27-year-old indigenous digital mapping company, whose mobile application will provide the information on current road conditions.

Apart from information on road safety, including black spots, hazardous turns, speed limits and bumps, waterlogging, closures, traffic light failures, and diversions, the mobile application — ‘Mappls Mapmyindia Maps’ — will also provide information on emergency situations such as protests, accidents, and VIP movements.

The MoU was signed by an additional director general (ADG), traffic, Sudhanshu Kumar, and vice-president of MapmyIndia (marketing), Ali Rizvi, at the Bihar Police headquarters on Nehru Path. Kumar said the platform would be available to all Bihar residents.

“Also, traffic-related advice/information received from them will be made available without delay with a map-based background. The traffic information will be posted to a MapmyIndia group of WhatsApp by the traffic police as well as commuters, which will then be uploaded on a real-time basis.

This information will be made available to the general public through the ‘Mappls Mapmyindia Maps’ mobile application via three means: basic map, information updated by the police and feedback received from the general public,” the ADG (traffic) said.

“General information such as hospitals/trauma centers, restaurants, petrol pumps, railway stations, tourist or religious sites, parking, no-vending zones, and CCTV camera positions will also be shared with the commuters through the platform,” the ADG (traffic) added.

The information will be available to the police administration on a centralized dashboard, facilitating effective traffic management. Though there are several mobile-based navigation apps like Google Maps, Trackobit Route Planner, HERE We Go: Maps & Navigation, Magic Earth Navigation & Maps, TomTom Go, and Waze Navigation & Live Traffic available in India, the Bihar Police chose Mapmyindia Maps because of several unique features like points of interest navigation.

Notifications or advisories on changes in traffic plans due to festivals, political rallies, and govt functions can also be updated here on short notice.

The ADG (traffic) added that all police officers in the state would be trained to upload the data to the Mapple app. Awareness about the app will be spread through police stations and social institutions, he added.

His counterpart in Jharkhand should take the initiative and move forward in the interest of commuters of the state who have suffered from untold miseries due to traffic woes.
