On September 17,2022, a new chapter was opened as the first batch of eight cheetahs (comprising five females and three males) was transported from Namibia to Kuno National Park in India. 

The release of these cheetahs into quarantine bomas within Kuno NP was overseen by the Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi. 

Now,there are 12 adult Cheetah (out of 20 Adults) and 12 cubs (out of 17 Cubs born on Indian soil) in Kuno.

How, this happened? 

To fortify the founder population, ongoing discussions and procedures facilitated the procurement of an additional twelve cheetahs from various private game reserves in South Africa. 

This augmentation initiative culminated on February 18, 2023, with the transportation of these twelve cheetahs to India.

In March 2023, Namibian female cheetah Jwala welcomed a litter of four cubs. In January 2024, a remarkable milestone was achieved in cheetah conservation on Indian soil as Namibian female cheetah Asha gave birth to her litter of three cubs and Jwala to 4 cubs. 

The cub numbers were strengthened further by the birth of cheetah Gamini’s 6 cubs in March 2024.

As such, at present there are 12 adults Cheetah (out of 20 Adults) and 12 cubs (out of 17 Cubs born on Indian soil) in Kuno.
