As the campaigning picked up momentum, the BJP reached Deoghar to mobilise support of Pandas( priests) of Babadham in support of its candidate Narain Das.
BJP’s state incharge Dr. Laxmi Kant Vajpayee has met chief priest called Sardar Pandaji and appealed to support party’s candidate Narain Das. The meeting on Saturday was attended by most Pandas of Babadham, Deoghar.
“The Panda Samaj has ensured that their votes will go in favour of BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Narayan Das”, said a member of Panda Samaj echoing the sentiments of a dozen Pandas JharkhandStateNews.com contacted to seek their opinion.
Deoghar reflects the mirror of Santhal Pargana. Deoghar district has three Assembly constituencies- Deoghar( Scheduled Caste Reserved seat). During the past two terms of the assembly, BJP has been victorious.
In 2014, the BJP in league with JD(U) had defeated RJD by over 45,000 votes. This lead came down to nearly 5000 in 2019 polls won by the BJP’s sitting MLA,Narain Das.
In 2009, the RJD’s Suresh Paswan who had grabbed Deoghar seat by defeating the JD(U) is the rival of the BJP’s Narain Das. This time, the JMM, Congress and Left parties are supporting RJD’s Suresh Paswan.
