The National Moot Court Competition on Consumer Protection Law Began today at the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi.
Organized by the Department of Consumer Research and Policy at NUSRL, the competition is being held in collaboration with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India.
The event sees participation from distinguished law schools and judicial experts across the country. The inaugural session of the competition featured Professor (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, Pro-Chancellor, IILM Gurugram and former Vice Chancellor of NLU Delhi and NALSAR Hyderabad, as the chief guest.
Professor Singh emphasized the importance of such competitions in building confidence among students and outlined several benefits of participating in moot court events. Hon’ble Mr. Basant Kumar Goswami, Acting Chairperson of the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Jharkhand, also addressed the gathering.
He highlighted how modern technology is providing law students with various new opportunities and emphasized the vital role of legal education in the development of consumer forums. Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil, Vice Chancellor of NUSRL Ranchi, mentioned that the university is continuously working to provide better opportunities to its students.
He also noted that the university conducts various joint programs to help students gain a better understanding of Consumer Protection Laws, with continued support from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. Ms. Soni Bhola provided detailed insights into the competition and its significance, while the session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shrimanshu Das, Assistant Professor, NUSRL, Ranchi.
This competition will serve as an excellent platform for discussions on Consumer Protection Laws, with participation from a distinguished panel of judicial and legal experts. The participants will engage in rigorous legal debates, highlighting the increasing importance of consumer rights.
The competition will conclude on November 24, 2024, with the Hon'ble Governor of Jharkhand, Mr. Santosh Kumar Gangwar, attending the final session. The Governor will also distribute certificates to the students.
The final session will feature key speakers including Mr. Anupam Mishra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, Judge, Jharkhand High Court.
