The National Moot Court Competition, organized by the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, under the National Consumer Protection Law, concluded today. 

The Governor Shri Santosh Gangwar was present for the event. Nirma University, Ahmedabad secured the first position, while the team from Delhi University clinched second place. 

In the presence of Governor Shri Santosh Gangwar, a significant agreement was signed between Anupam Mishra (Joint Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Food and Public Distribution) and representatives from NUSRL. 

The agreement established a Chair on Consumer Law at the university, which will function as a think tank focused on research and policy issues related to consumer law and behavior. During the Moot Court competition, the team from the Institute of Law, Nirma University received top honors, with Bhumika Agarwal being recognized as the 'Best Speaker'. 

The winning team Aagam Bakliwal, Som Sharma, and Bhumika Agarwal. The Runner-Up position was secured by the team from Law Centre 2, Faculty of Law, Delhi University, which consisted of Puru Bharadwaj, Savita Rai, and Riya Aggarwal. The award for Best Memorial (Both Sides) was presented to the team from the Integrated Law Course, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, comprising Harsh Kumar, Mohd. Sufiyan Ahmed, and Kamna.

The program began with the welcome address by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Prof. Ashok R. Patil, who highlighted the university’s excellence and the significance of the Moot Court competition. 

The Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Governor for taking time out to attend the event and to the judges for guiding the students during the competition. He also emphasized the importance of consumer law and its protection.  

Governor Shri Santosh Gangwar, recalling his advocacy days, shared, “When I was studying law, I was arrested during the Emergency, and that’s when my path shifted towards politics. I went on to win the Lok Sabha elections eight times and was given other responsibilities the ninth time. 

Awareness about consumer protection laws is vital for people to benefit from them. Seeing you young colleagues here, I feel that steps are being taken in the right direction. It gives hope that justice will be delivered to the common people and awareness about the law will grow.” 

He further stated that meeting good lawyers is not easy and appealed to all students to work for their respect and reputation. He shared that he had met many honest lawyers who believed that law can bring positive changes in society and the nation.  

The Moot Court competition was organized by NUSRL’s Department of Consumer Research and Policy in collaboration with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Government of India. Students from 20 prestigious law schools across the country participated in the event. 

The program was coordinated by Teaching Assistant Mrs. Anushtha Saxena, who provided information about the competition, Assistant Professor Miss Soni Bhola introduced the dignitaries, and Assistant Professor Ravindra Kumar Pathak delivered the vote of thanks.
