CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory celebrated its Platinum Jubilee Year Foundation Day on the 26th of November, 2024.
Dr. (Mrs.) N. Kalaiselvi, Director General, CSIR & Secretary DSIR,laid out the foundation stone of Pilot Plant for Production of Magnesium Metal at Magnesium Pilot Plant Area, Nildih, Jamshedpur.
The main function started with the lamp-lighting ceremony by the dignitaries on the dais, Dr. (Mrs.) N. Kalaiselvi Director General, CSIR & Secretary DSIR;Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML; Shri Chaitanya Bhanu, Vice President, Steel Manufacturing, Tata SteelLtd. and Mr. Aditya Mainak, Administrative Officer, CSIR-NML.
Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML delivered welcome address and talked about the contributions of CSIR-NML in the Science & Technology development of the country, since its inception in 1950.
Dr. (Mrs.) N. Kalaiselvi, Director General, CSIR & Secretary DSIR congratulated the Director, CSIR-NML and members of CSIR-NML family on the occasion of the platinum Jubilee. She expressed her satisfaction on the CSIR-NML's contribution and success made in different front including commercialisation of process / products and Societal mission.
Dr. Kalaiselvi mention, there are huge scope for NML Scientists in view of research and developments in global market. She further stress on the need of trapping the Indian Market which presently ranked 3rd. Currently whole world is looking for this Indian Market. She stressed on the need for development of relevant technologies with time matched features. She also stressed on the need for associating more Young researchers and pleaded for their joint venture.
Shri Chaitanya Bhanu, Vice President, Steel Manufacturing, Tata Steel Ltd. graced the occasion as a Guest of Honour.
On this day, CSIR-NML presented few awards to employees as well as wards of employees.
Those are mainly, the Prof. V.A. Altekar award for the best technology licensed or commercialized in the last calendar year, Dr. B.R. Nijhawan Award for the best paper published in the last calendar year, Prof. Shilowbhadra Banerjee award for the best in-house project completed last year, Prof. P. Ramachandra Rao award for the best employee in Technical/ Non-Technical Category during the year 2022 and several meritorious awards to NML staff children at various categories.
This year, the recipients of Dr B R Nijhawan was received by Ms. Nisha Gupta and Dr. Pallab Bhattacharya for the research paper "Microwave-plasma induced one-step synthesis of Ni(PO3)2 nanosphere- loaded bio-waste derived N, P co-doped carbon for an asymmetric supercapacitor with prolonged life", published in Journal of Materials Chemistry C.
Prof. Shilowbhadra Banerjee award for the best in-house project was received by Dr. Krishna Kumar, Ms. Y Usha, Dr. M Madan, Dr. Rohit B Meshram, Mr. M Uday Bhaskar Rao, Dr. Navneet Singh Randhawa, Mr. Nimai Halder, Dr. Ganesh Chalavadi, Dr. Ashok K for the project "Investigations on the NML’s retort technology for magnesium metal production".
Prof. P. Ramachandra Rao award for the best employee are Mr H S Tirkey, Sr. Technician, Engg Division in Technical Category and Mr. Sitaram Murmu, SSA (S&P) in Non-Technical Category.
These awards were presented by the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour.
A vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Aditya Mainak, Administrative Officer,
CSIR-NML. The program concluded with the National Anthem.
Reminiscences @CSIR-NML: Address by Former Directors, CSIR-NML and interaction with Staff. In their speech, they made a reminiscence of CSIR-NML & legacy of historic innovations for the last 75 years in the areas of Minerals, Metals and Materials.
