It’s more than five days since March 6 when the Advocates Association Jharkhand High Court resolved to abstain from work.

Ever since then, they have not been participating in court proceedings in the courts of Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao, Justices Sujit Narayan Prasad and Rongon Mukhopadhyay.

Their protest was against the inclusion of names of advocates from outside Jharkhand for being considered for elevation as judges of the High Court.

The association, at a meeting in the High Court premises on March 5, had resolved that advocates will refrain from working in the seniority courts of the top three judges in the Jharkhand High Court.

They have stuck to their decision and continued to protest on Monday( March 10, 2025). The association of advocated had also resolved that a delegation of its members will seek a meeting with the Chief Justice of India, Union law minister and the judges of the Supreme Court collegium to discuss judicial appointment of lawyers from within the Jharkhand High Court as judges and not include candidates from outside the state. They had met, but in vain.

The Association has been agitating against the appointment of candidates from outside Jharkhand as judges of Jharkhand High Court.
"Several letters have earlier been addressed to the chief justice with regards to the feelings of the Association pertaining to judicial appointment of outside candidates as judges in the Jharkhand High Court," said Association secretary Navin Kumar.

The Association has further mentioned that lawyers who will not follow the resolution taken by the Association of not appearing before the three judges will be struck off the list of members of the Association.

More than 400 advocates have already signed the resolution and a follow-up meeting is scheduled to be held today on March 10 in the matter.
