** show scenes near Siramtoli chowk in Ranchi.
Most shops remained closed even as state government offices at the District Collectorate remained open in Ranchi on Saturday.
On the outskirts of the city, most shops were opened. The traffic on highways were normal though across the city, few vehicles were spotted on main roads.
At Albert Ekka Chowk, a group of tribals raised pro-bandh slogans even as police personnel looked the other way. No incident of violence was reported till 12.30 pm today.
Ranchi district administration has deployed enough security personnel both from the state police and central armed forces across the district to prevent any untoward incidents.
Notable Sarna Samiti called for the bandh protesting against non -payment of compensation by the state government for the construction of a ramp over a plot of land at the Siromtoli flyover, claiming that it will threaten their religious site.
The under-construction flyover will connect Siromtoli Chowk and Mecon Chowk. And the said plot of land, claims the state government owns the plot of land and as such there was no possibility of providing any compensation.
This has divided the tribal community. The protesting tribal group “ Sarna Samiti” stands for compensation, other tribal communities under the same Sarna Samiti argued that “ vested interest for money has ignited a group of people. We oppose them”, said a leader of the opposing group.
The district administration has appealed to the Sarna Samiti to ensure a peaceful and non-coercive demonstration.
Ranchi SDO Utkarsh Kumar said, "If they do not adhere to the appeal, the administration will take lawful action against them. Magistrate and security forces are deployed in every prominent area across the district to ensure that businesses and vehicular movement are not affected," the SDO added.
The district administration also arranged a few buses in some areas to ensure seamless transportation for students and civilians, if other transportation modes come to a halt.
A day before the bandh on Friday evening, scores of protestors took out a torch march from Jaipal Munda Stadium to Albert Ekka Chowk.
