The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, and the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), under the National Health Mission, Government of Jharkhand, jointly organized a workshop on preventing tobacco use and raising awareness. 

Students, teachers, and staff participated in the event, taking an oath to refrain from tobacco use. Various government initiatives for tobacco control at the state and central levels were highlighted during the program.

*Shocking Facts on Tobacco Consumption in India*

Dr. Ashwini Kumar, State Nodal Officer (NTCP), presented alarming statistics on tobacco use in India, emphasizing its growing prevalence. He engaged students by asking, "Do you know which diseases are caused by tobacco?" While many cited cancer, Dr. Kumar elaborated on other severe health risks, stressing that tobacco addiction is extremely dangerous.

*Legal Framework and Future Strategies*
Rajiv Kumar State Consultant (NTCP), conducted an in-depth session on the history of tobacco products, their impact, and future control strategies. 

He acknowledged the role of Bengaluru Law School in shaping tobacco control laws, made a Special mention of Prof. Dr. Ashok R. Patil and expressed hope for NUSRL’s collaboration in formulating state policies. He also discussed the rising trend of e-cigarettes and their legal implications, along with the trade of tendu leaves and bidi manufacturing in Jharkhand.

*Awareness Film and Pledge*

A short film showcasing the harmful effects of tobacco was screened, featuring testimonials from individuals suffering from tobacco-related diseases. Under the leadership of Dr. Avinash Kumar, all participants took an oath to avoid tobacco products—a strong step toward a healthier society.

Dr. Anand Kumar Shindhe (NUSRL) welcomed the attendees, while Dr. Saumyajit Mukhopadhyay delivered the vote of thanks, concluding the event. This workshop marks a significant effort in building a tobacco-free society.
