The DPIIT IPR Chair at the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, in collaboration with the Center for Study and Research in IPR (CSRIPR), has successfully launched a National Online Single-Credit Certificate Course on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) and FRAND Commitments. 

The course, which commenced on April 2, 2025, has already drawn 35 participants, including law students, researchers, IP professionals, and academicians from leading institutions and industries nationwide.

The inaugural session on April 2, 2025, was led by Prof. Dr Sreenivasa Murthy, who provided an in-depth overview of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), patent law fundamentals, and the significance of SEPs in global innovation ecosystems. 

His follow-up session on April 4 delved into patent system architecture and key IP jurisprudence principles, blending theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.

2.April 5, 2025 features Advocate Vivek Ranjan, a distinguished IP expert from Kommit Legal, New Delhi, who will discuss SEPs and FRAND licensing dynamics in contemporary legal and technological scenarios—a critical area shaping global standard-setting and patent disputes.

*Bridging Academia & Industry for IPR Excellence*
This initiative underscores NUSRL’s commitment to fostering IPR education, research, and policy development in India. By facilitating industry-academia dialogue, the course equips participants with cutting-edge insights into patent law, licensing frameworks, and innovation governance.

A comprehensive report compiling key findings from the course will be submitted to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India, to guide future IP policy and regulatory strategies.
