Students of the second-year Sociology course at the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, recently visited two villages in the Kanke block.
The visit was organized under the guidance of Assistant Registrar and faculty member Dr. Jissu Ketan Pattnaik, who accompanied the students to Murum and Kumharia villages.
Dr.Pattnaik said that the university’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. (Prof.) Ashok R. Patil strongly believes that students need to understand real-life situations on the ground, not just classroom theories. He added that the goal is to understand the current conditions of the villages, help students gain insights, and prepare a detailed report, which will also be shared with the state government.
During the two-day educational field trip, students gathered firsthand information on various aspects of rural life, including education, healthcare, sanitation, harmful social practices, local governance, and the actual implementation of government rural development schemes.
Students engaged with local residents, asking questions and trying to understand the root causes of challenges in the villages. This visit gave them a valuable opportunity to step out of the classroom and experience real-world issues, think about the reasons behind them, and explore possible solutions.
This interaction became a meaningful experience for the students, helping them better understand the real conditions and challenges of rural communities.
Each student group focused on one specific area — such as education, health, sanitation, or governance — and prepared a detailed report. Based on all these individual reports, a comprehensive “Village Development Report” is being created, which will be submitted to the state government.
This report will analyze the key obstacles in village development, assess the effectiveness of government schemes, and identify areas that need improvement.
The university is planning to work as a think tank. It also aims to offer free legal advice in certain cases in the villages. After this report is completed, NUSRL will continue to monitor the progress of the villages and how well government schemes are being implemented.
The purpose of this initiative is not just to give students practical experience, but also to contribute to the sustainable development of rural communities.
