Jamshedpur – The valedictory function of the 14th edition of “Behind The Teacher’s Desk (BTTD-2025)”, a three-day national-level students' seminar on Metallurgical Engineering, concluded today at the NIT Jamshedpur. 

The event was jointly organized by the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) Jamshedpur Chapter in collaboration with the CSIR–National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Tata Steel Limited, and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur. 

The BTTD has established itself as a premier platform for young metallurgists across the country. This year, the seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 150 students and speakers representing various engineering institutions nationwide. 

In total, 78 technical papers were presented across twelve parallel sessions, covering a broad spectrum of topics in metallurgy and materials science. The second day of the event started with an interactive keynote lecture by Ms. Deeba Ahmed, Chief HRBP Corporate Functions, Tata Steel, detailing the complete spectrum of HR functions, student preparations, anxiety management, and the importance of self-development. 

The session was chaired by Dr. A.N. Bhagat, Former Chief Researcher, TATA Steel.
The valedictory session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. V. C. Srivastava, Chief Scientist, CSIR-NML & Vice-Chairman, IIM Jamshedpur Chapter, who also introduced the Chief Guest, Ms. Swastika Basu, Managing Director, JAMIPOL. 

Commending the organisers, Ms. Basu appreciated the seminar's unique format that integrated expert lectures, student presentations, quizzes, and industrial visits, fostering holistic learning and engagement. 

A special feedback session was conducted by Prof. Ashok Kumar, Head of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, NIT Jamshedpur. During the session, participants shared constructive suggestions to further enrich the seminar in future editions. 

A moment of recognition was dedicated to Shri B.K. Singh, former Associate Professor, NIT Jamshedpur, and long-standing IIM Executive Committee member, was felicitated for his enduring contribution to academia and the IIM community. 

The conveners of BTTD-2025, Dr. Premkumar (Principal Scientist, CSIR-NML), Dr. Poulami Maji (Assistant Professor, NIT Jamshedpur), and Shri Manish Bhadu (Principal Scientist, Tata Steel), shared their reflections and expressed gratitude to participants for their involvement. 

In the award ceremony, 19 students were felicitated for Best Oral Presentation, and 6 students were awarded for their performance in the Meta-Quiz competition held online. Subsequently, a cultural evening was held, during which delegates actively showcased their talents, adding vibrancy to the seminar. 

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri Manish Bhadu, who expressed appreciation to all participants, organisers, and partner institutions for ensuring the seminar’s success. He also announced that industrial tours have been arranged for June 27, 2025, to Tata Steel Ltd, Tata Steel Long Products (Ghamaria), Tata Tinplate, JAMIPOL, and CSIR-NML, providing students with valuable industry exposure and practical insights.
