

As the sisters tie Rakhis on the wrists of their brothers to celebrate the festival of Raksha Bandhan, the country recalled those nationalists who took part in the struggle for freedom from British rule.
For the first time, the Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated on 8 August, the historic day in 1942, during World War II, Mahatama Gandhi had kick-started the Quit India movement, demanding an end to British rule in India.
As such, while congratulating brothers and sisters for the Raksha Bandhan, the President Droupadi Murmu and the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi extended greetings, wishing happiness and harmony to all Indians at home and abroad.
They also paid tributes with deep gratitude to all brave people who took part in the Quit India Movement under the inspiring leadership of Mahatma Gandhi.

The PM Shri Modi said their courage lit a spark of patriotism that united countless people in the quest for freedom.
The Prime Minister posted on X;
