Two political parties-ruling JMM and opposition Congress-can win one Rajya Sabha seat each.

The polls are scheduled to be held on March 26. The polls for two RS seats were necessitated as the five-year term of RS MPs Premchand Gupta (RJD) and Parimal Nathwani (Independent) ended on April 9.

The BJP has sent a list of two candidates to its high command. One, ex-CM Raghubar Das.Two, Ravindra Rai. If the AJSU, which snapped its ties with the BJP ahead of the Assembly elections, supports the BJP candidate, it will be an easy ride for the saffron party to win a Rajya Sabha seat.

Now, BJP has provided a ticket to Deepak Prakash, its state president.

More, with ex-CM Babulal Marandi having joined the BJP, its strength has gone up to 27 from 26 seats in 81 -Member Jharkhand Assembly. As such, BJP claims to have two more Independent MLAs in touch with them. If they get their votes too, the number can go up to 30, three more than 27 needed to win a seat. ..

JMM has fielded its president and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren as its candidate for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections from the state. The victory of Soren, who had been an architect in the Jharkhand movement and worked for the poor, is almost certain.
