“Abki Bar 400 par”,Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, ‘Viksit Bharat’, Modi’s guarantee to develop India as Third from Fifth largest economy and so on. These are the BJP’s poll plank for the forth coming General elections 2024.

How INDI alliance partner JMM plans to counter the heavy weight BJP?

Clearly, to counter the BJP and NDA’s poll agenda, JMM and it’s INDIA allies, after the arrest of Hemant Soren in money laundering connected to a land scam in Ranchi, have been at a loss.

Now, they have decided to raise several old demands of the Adivadis and Mulwasis( local non - Adivasis) in Jharkhand.

In order to highlight its agenda at national and local level to gain media coverage and their by garner support among people, the JMM leaders say they have adopted a “master” modus -operandi.

First, meet President Droupadi Murmu and hand over a list of its demand. Already JMM Chief General Secretary Vinod Pandey has sought appointment from President Murmu by writing a letter to her to permit a team of its 50 members including MPs and MLAs -to meet her on any date of her choice.

While date of President’s appointment is awaited, the JMM has drafted a plan to raise following demands before President Droupadi Murmu.

*To realise self - identity of Adivasi, who are neither Hindu nor Christian or Muslim, incorporate Sarna Dharm Code in the constitution.

*Increase percentage of reservation for Schedule Tribe, Schedule Caste and Backward Caste to 77 per cent. *Allow domicile of residents of Jharkhand on the basis of their ancestors land records dating back to “1932 Khatiyan”.

Since start of its term in 2020, the ruling JMM, under pressure of some groups of Adivasi who aspire and have been actively raising the above demands, had got the state Assembly’s approval.

However, since the judiciary was against these demands which can not be met without amendment in the Constitution, the JMM has faced flak from these Adivasi groups.

Aware of it move, the JMM has formulated a strategy to pass the buck of its “ failed” move on the BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Against this backdrop, JMM leader and CM Champai Soren has been challenging the BJP and predicting that this saffron party will not win one LS seat in Jharkhand.

In 2019, BJP and its ally AJSU had won 11 and 1 seat of 14 seats in total. The JMM and Congress had won 1 seat each.
