PVUNL to commission three 800 MW units in phase-1 by December 2026.

The second unit of 800MW capacity from the super thermal power project was successfully synchronised on May 12,2026.

Prior to this Unit one, a trial run of all units of the Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL), a collaborative venture between National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and the state govt was tested on March 17,2026 successfully.

R K Singh, chief executive officer (CEO) of PVUNL in Patratu, Ramgarh district, announced that the unit was synchronised.

This latest achievement represents a crucial development in strengthening Jharkhand's power infrastructure and ensuring reliable electricity supply nationwide.

The CEO expressed appreciation to the teams from PVUNL, NTPC and Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) for their continuous dedication and resilience in achieving this synchronisation. PVUNL aims to achieve the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for Unit 1 and 2 within the current financial year.

The organisation plans to commission the remaining obe unit of Phase-I during FY 2025-26, which will enhance India's power generation capabilities, it had said in a statement.

“This achievement reflects the strategic planning, collaboration, and dedication of all involved in the Patratu Super Thermal Power Project," said Singh had said.

The project outline includes establishing 3×800MW capacity units in phase 1, followed by 2×800MW units in phase 2.

From the Unit one, 800 MWs power was being generated. With its second Unit set to start generation of total 1600 MWs. Out of this Jharkhand will get 1360 MWs.

Since power demand shot up in summer, the power supplied by PVUNL will help meet the demand of consumers, it is hoped.

As per the agreement between the PVUNL and Jharkhand power company, 85 percent of its power will be provided to the state of Jharkhand.
