A 14-year-old girl gave birth inside a toilet at Sadar Hospital in Jharkhand’s Giridih on Friday, triggering panic on the hospital premises after the newborn was found stuck in the toilet pan, officials told India today.in.

Investigation revealed that the police is yet to find the father of this minor girl’s baby. “ We are investigating the case”, said a senior police officer on Saturday.

Indiatoday.in report based its report on statements of the eyewitnesses saying, the minor was seen coming out of a toilet in the ward area in a distressed condition. “People nearby noticed blood inside and outside the toilet and alerted hospital staff after suspecting that something was wrong”, said the report.

The girl is learnt to have made an effort to leave the hospital but collapsed a short distance away after feeling dizzy. Hospital authorities were then informed, following which police from the Giridih Town police station also reached the spot.

When police and hospital staff inspected the toilet, they found the newborn stuck in the pan. Given the seriousness of the situation, doctors, hospital employees and police personnel worked together to safely rescue the baby.

An ambulance was then called, and both the minor mother and the newborn were shifted to the Maternal and Child Hospital at Chaitadih for treatment.

Hospital Deputy Superintendent Dr Pradeep Baitha said both had been admitted and were under medical observation. He said the condition of the mother and the newborn was currently normal.

When contacted, the Town police station in-charge Ratan Kumar Singh confirmed that the case was being investigated.
