In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, the President has appointed Smt. Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai, Judge of the Sikkim High Court, as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.

Her appointment will be with effect from 05.06.2026 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo on 04.06.2026. She is expected to take the oath on the same date.

The Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting held on May 22, 2026, had recommended the appointment of Justice Rai as CJ of Patna High Court consequent upon the retirement of incumbent CJ Sangam K Sahoo on June 4.
