The Union Ministry of Tourism has undertaken several initiatives during the last two years to promote tourism through infrastructure development, digital promotion and expansion of basic amenities across the country.

The Ministry has sanctioned  2 projects for Jharkhand among 117 projects across the country worth Rs. 5756.62 crores. These projects figured under the above-mentioned Schemes.

The two Jharkhand projects were:

One, under Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment Scheme, Eco-Tourism Development of Tilaiyya” in Koderma. The project outlay is ₹34.87 crore.

This information was part of the written reply given by the Minister of Tourism Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in the Lok Sabha on July 20, 2026.

About Tilaiya:

Tilaiya dam, located in Koderma district about 180 km from Ranchi, is a premier eco-tourism and adventure hub.

The area is surrounded by lush green forests and scenic islands. It offers boating, a floating restaurant, and is being expanded with a massive 53-acre eco-park in nearby Bendgi.

Tourists were spotted boating, island hopping, nature photography, taking Selfie at a newly established Adventure Park with floating restaurants.It is considered a prime spot for birdwatching, especially during the winter months when migratory birds flock to the reservoir.

The Tourism Ministry is investing in the Bendgi area to build modern, eco-friendly tourist amenities, with further developments spanning 53 acres in the nearby Jawahar Valley.

Two,(Spiritual Tourism) under Challenge Based Destination Development Scheme for 
Tourism Infrastructure Development at Ramrekha Dham. The project outlay is ₹18.87 crore.

About Ram Rekha Dham:

Ram Rekha Dham is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site located about 26 km from Simdega, Jharkhand. Steeped in mythology, it is believed that Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, and Lakshman spent time here during their 14-year exile. The site features ancient rock carvings believed to be drawn by Lord Ram himself.

The name "Ram Rekha" originates from lines scratched on the roof of a curved cave, which legend claims were drawn by Lord Ram himself.

The dham features several archaeological structures and formations that devotees believe were used by the deities during their exile. These include Agni Kund (fire pit), Charan Paduka (footprints), Sita Chulha (cooking hearth), and Gupt Ganga (hidden river).

The historical cave temple complex was discovered and subsequently developed by the local Kaisalpur-Birugarh Royal family.

The primary temple dedicated to Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lord Lakshman, Lord Hanuman, and Lord Shiva is located naturally within a large, bowed cave.

The dham attracts visitors from various communities across India, with a major fair (Mela) held every year on the full moon of Kartik Purnima.
