What happened in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district is indicative of one reality. The UP police popular anti- crime move known as "Operation Langda" appears to have inspired Jharkhand police.

Operation Langra is an unofficial term used for a strict police strategy in Uttar Pradesh. Cops shoot repeat offenders in the leg to stop them from running or fighting back.This appeared to have been visible in the latest anti crime move of Jharkhand police.

Consider this.  

After a reported ‘encounter’ one person was injured and another was arrested and taken into custody. The injured was undergoing treatment in a hospital in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh town.

They were learnt to be members of the dreaded gang of Rahul Dubey who were reportedly planning to execute a serious crime linked with ransom.

On a ‘tip off’ last night that two bike borne men were on the move to commit a ‘major crime’, the cops were alarmed in  area near Chandragupta Mines in Hazaribagh fell under the jurisdiction of Keredari police station.

“They were encircled. Soon the cops came face to face with these two bike borne criminals… When they were asked to stop the bike, they tried to flee and opened fire. In self defence, the policemen opened fire. The bullet hit the leg of one of them. Another one was nabbed and arrested”, said a senior police officer on Friday ( July 24).
