Security has been heavily tightened for the peaceful Shravani Mela in Jharkhand’s Deoghar.

The Mela starts on July 30 to conclude on August 28, 2026, featuring deployment of around 11,500 police personnel, AI-based drones and facial recognition cameras, and 24/7 NDRF teams at Shivganga.

Deoghar is considered home to the sacred Baidyanath Jyotirlinga Temple (also known as Baba Baidyanath Dham). It is officially recognized as one of the 12 revered Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva.

During the month-long Mela, Kanwar Yatra, devotees walk long distances, often 109 km from Sultanganj to Babadham, carrying water in kanwars (metal containers) on their shoulders. This journey is a testament to their devotion and is accompanied by chants of “Bol Bam”.

This time, 50-55 lakh devotees are expected to participate in the mela, according to Deoghar district administration.

The Jharkhand Cabinet has approved 28 temporary fair outposts and 19 traffic outposts, alongside an AI-based control room and enhanced crowd, health and water arrangements.
