New speed-monitoring CCTV cameras have been installed and made active on the Chutupalu Valley stretch of the Ranchi-Ramgarh highway (NH-20 / NH-33).
The move of the NHAI aims to curb frequent accidents. The maximum speed limit enforced in this descending valley is 40 km/h, and exceeding this limit triggers automated e-challans sent directly to the vehicle owner's address.
The installed digital speed cameras display vehicle speeds in real-time on roadside indicators to alert drivers immediately.
The strict cap is 40 km/h due to the steep slope and sharp turns. Driving above the limit or triggering the traffic signal will result in heavy electronic fines.
Authorities have added zigzag barricading, multi-level speed controls, and routine police vehicle checks, alongside breath analyzers for heavy vehicle drivers.
