Every body knows that education has the power to transform lives, particularly for students from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. By providing financial assistance to deserving students, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment claims to be enabling talented youth to pursue quality higher education and become agents of change within their communities.

One such inspiring story is that of Bishwajit Mondal, a 28-year-old student from a rural, tribal-dominated region of Jharkhand. His academic journey seems to have activated by the PM-YASASVI Scholarship Scheme.

Inquiry revealed that he grew up in a region where access to quality education, professional exposure and employment opportunities was limited. Bishwajit Mandol faced significant financial constraints. Belonging to the Other Backward Class (OBC) community, pursuing management education at one of India's premier institutions appeared to be an ambitious dream.

Against this backdrop, undeterred by these challenges, he worked tirelessly to secure admission to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur for the 2024–26 Post Graduate Programme (PGP). Now, he has become the first individual from his community to achieve this remarkable milestone.

As it is, the cost of pursuing an MBA at IIM Raipur posed a major financial challenge for Bishwajit and his family. Through the PM-YASASVI Scholarship, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment provided financial assistance covering the full tuition fee of approximately ₹18 lakh.

Mandol says that the timely support enabled him to continue his education without financial uncertainty and allowed him to devote his complete attention to academics and personal development.

Apparently, freed from financial pressures, Bishwajit actively participated in academic projects, leadership initiatives, skill development programmes and professional networking opportunities offered at IIM Raipur. These experiences strengthened are learnt to have helped him gain managerial capabilities and thereby significantly enhanced his career prospects.

Today, Bishwajit is understood to be well-positioned to build a successful professional career while serving as a role model for young students from rural and marginalized communities.
