*Traffic jam scenes on two roads linking Kanke road with Airport in Ranchi
Ramesh Singh had to cover a distance of around 7.5 km to reach the Birsa Munda airport to board the Indigo Ranchi - Kolkata flight at 3.45 pm.The police had put up multiple barricades on this route covering the Jharkhand Assembly.
As per the schedule, students had launched
their Assembly gherao to press the Hemant Soren government to accept their demand of CBI probe into irregularities in the examination process of the state government bodies - Jharkhand Public Service Commission and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission.
Aware of it, Singh booked a room in the hotel located adjacent to the Birsa Munda airport.And he left Kanke road based home at 10.30 am and checked in the hotel at 12 noon. In effect, he took one and half hours to cover this 7.5 km distance, stayed in this hotel for an hour to board the Indigo’s Ranchi- Kolkata flight.
Singh is not an isolated case. Like him there were more than 2,500 fliers who spent hours reaching the Ranchi airport due to traffic disruption created by cops set up barricades and students assembly gherao agitation.
Against this backdrop of unprecedented traffic disruption and road jam, the worst affected were patients and their families whose ambulances were reportedly stuck for hours near main road and Lalpur chowk.
”The police have totally failed. We are in a big mess”, cribbed Sonu Minz, a school teacher whose ailing wife was admitted at RMCH today afternoon.
Jharkhand is currently witnessing a large-scalestudent protest that has majorly altered the state’s political discourse. The agitation is centred on the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination, officially called the Jharkhand General Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination (JGGLCCE).
Aspirants have accused the recruitment process of irregularities and are demanding transparency, accountability, and fair treatment in government examinations.
The students protest has spread across Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Bokaro, and several other districts, drawing thousands of students onto the streets.
Demonstrators have organised marches toward the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha, held sit-ins, and demanded an independent CBI investigation into the examination process.
