Acting on credible intelligence regarding illegal coal mining, storage and theft in the Kujju area of Ramgarh District, CISF CCL NK & Piparwar, under the directions of DIG, CISF CCL Hqrs., Ranchi, conducted consecutive joint operations with CCL Management and CCL Security on August 7 and 8,2026.

A special team, constituted on the direction of DIG, CISF CCL Hqrs., Ranchi, was led by Area commander, CISF NK & Piparwar Area. The team moved from CCL NK & Piparwar at about 1300 hrs on August 7, 2026 and proceeded to the Kujju area, located approximately 90 km from the CISF CCL NK & Piparwar Camp.

Operation on July 7, 2026 – Topa, Kujju.
 

During the operation, the CISF team detected an illegal coal mining tunnel on CCL land in the Topa area of Kujju. Substantial quantity of illegally mined coal stored outside the tunnel was recovered. The matter was informed to CCL management and Local Police.

A total of 115.260 MT of illegally mined coal, having an estimated value of ₹3,45,780/- (approximately ₹3.46 lakh) was seized and handed over to CCL management. The team returned to NK & Piparwar at approximately 2200 hrs after completion of the operation.

Operation on 08.08.2026 – Magardaha–Topa Forest Area
 

Based on further credible intelligence regarding illegal coal mining and clandestine storage in the Magardaha–Topa forest belt, the team again moved from NK & Piparwar at approximately 0800 hrs on 08.08.2026.

The CISF team conducted an extensive search of the remote and difficult forest area and recovered 750.892 MT of illegally mined/collected and concealed coal from different locations. The estimated value of the recovered coal was approximately ₹37.54 lakh.

The operation involved more than 59 CISF personnel, including lady personnel and CCL officials. The team was adequately equipped with requisite security and safety equipment to deal with any operational exigency in the difficult terrain. The team returned to CCL NK & Piparwar at approximately 2130 hrs after completion of the raid.
 

Overall Achievement.
Thus, during the two consecutive joint operations conducted on 07.08.2026 and 08.08.2026 by CISF, NK & Piparwar recovered a total of: 866.152 MT of illegal coal, with an estimated value of approximately ₹40.99 lakh.

The operations demonstrate the proactive and intelligence-driven approach of CISF in combating illegal coal mining, theft, storage and transportation, including activities taking place in remote areas outside the jurisdiction of CISF.

The successful operations also reflect the effectiveness of enforcement under the MMDR Act and the prescribed SOP, and are expected to create a strong deterrent against illegal coal mining and theft in the Kujju–Topa–Magardaha belt.

The recovered coal has been handed over to CCL Management for further necessary action as per law and prescribed procedure.
